Fostering Community Through Dance Leadership
As Dance Coordinator at Mathis Dance Studios, Sam Lochtenberg combines administrative leadership with dance expertise. With qualifications including a Diploma of Dance Performance from the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet and Licentiate L.C.B.A-C.I.C.B Cecchetti Ballet, Sam brings professional insight to this vital role.
"I can't remember not dancing! When you find something you love, you wake up grateful you get to do it every day, and share your passion," Sam explains. "I have a strong appreciation for the Cecchetti Ballet method and love exploring innovative approaches to my contemporary teaching."
Student-Centred Approach
For Sam, dance education begins with understanding each student's needs:
"Supporting all students' needs is my first priority when I walk into a studio. Coming from a competitive background, and one with many years focusing on only ballet, finding a love for all styles of dance is imperative for a student to grow."
“Mathis is my family, my safe space and a place to continue growing.”
Finding Home in Dance
"Mathis to me has always felt like home, and I feel as though this is the most important part of our dance school. Mathis is my family, my safe space and a place to continue growing, even now as an adult."
Celebrating Student Success
One of Sam's most rewarding experiences has been watching former students achieve their dreams.
"Seeing past student Alex Macnab, live life overseas, dancing in the company I dreamt of as a dancer growing up. Seeing her grow into the most amazing human and dancer from such a young age has been inspiring to me, and pushes me to grow."
